Myanmar Emergency Appeal
Islamic Relief has been working in Myanmar since 2008, delivering life-saving emergency aid, food and hygiene kits to those displaced by internal conflict and inter-communal violence. They rebuilt schools and funded healthcare through innovative clinics, which allow them to reach isolated communities.
The emergency situation worsened in Rakhine State with violent clashes resulting in over one hundred dead and thousands left without access to food, shelter or security. This recent spate of conflict has not only seen civilians killed but buildings burned down and landmines planted. Whilst 3,000 displaced Rohingya have reportedly obtained passage into Bangladesh to seek refuge in camps and villages, many more are turned around at the border. Entire townships have had to be evacuated creating wholly displaced communities in temporary shelter in schools and public buildings.
Urgent funds are needed to support relief efforts. 10% from your purchases will be used for the beneficiaries in Malaysia, Myanmar and Bangladesh (through PULSE Bangladesh).
Rohingya Integrated School Of Excellence (RISE)
For donations that will be given to beneficiaries in Malaysia, it will go to RISE, a school located in Taman Kajang Utama.
There are currently about 100 000 Rohingyan’s that are taking refuge in Malaysia, and only 40 000 of them are registered by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
The crisis in Rakhine started around 1950 and since then the Rohingyans are prosecuted and they are denied every human rights in their own land and country. They can’t own any land and their children are denied of education, therefore almost 85%- 90% of the Rohingya is illiterate.
They cannot read and write even in their own language, and this creates a big problem when they try to survive in Malaysia because of the different language spoken and written. There are several schools created in Malaysia in order to educate the Rohingyan’s children, but currently there are no proper academic school located in Bandar Baru Bangi, Kajang, Serdang and Balakong area for the Rohingya community there.
