Our Top 10 Baking Hacks

We love hacks, who doesn't right? Not only does it save you time and money but it can produce the same results too!

Here are our top 10 baking hacks we love to use:

1. DIY Your Buttermilk

Buttermilk can be expensive to be purchased at the store, but did you know you can make it at home? All you need is just milk and vinegar.

3 tablespoons of milk + 1 tablespoon of vinegar

Let it sit until slightly thickens.

2. Remove eggshells with the empty egg shell

So you crack the egg and found some eggshells in them. It can get pretty annoying and difficult to remove them with a spoon but use the half empty egg shell to remove it, it's a breeze!

3. Spray non stick oil to pour sticky liquids easily

Don't you hate dealing with a sticky mess when pouring liquids such as honey? Spray non stick butter or oil before scooping honey and you will find it glides right out easily.

4. Wet your fingers when working with your cookie dough

When working with cookie batters or dough specially the ones on the sticky side, wet your fingers to avoid all that cookie clumping on your fingers.

5. Don't have an egg? Use baking soda instead!

That's right! Take 1 tablespoon of hot boiling water and mix it with a teaspoon of baking soda for 1 egg, it will fizzle and activate. You can then drop it in your batter. This substitution may not work for everything but it is definitely a great trick to try out nonetheless!

6. Freezing cookie dough before baking

Freezing your cookie dough before baking not only helps all the flavours to marry well, but your cookie will also result in better texture and look.

7. Always sift your dry ingredients

I know, I know. This is quite a lame tip but hey we get lazy sometimes am I right?. But it does make a big difference. Sifting the dry ingredients will create air that helps with making the cakes rise better.

8. Use cake syrups for your cakes

You can either do typical sugar syrup or a flavoured one to match your cakes. Not only does it keep your cakes moist but it gives depth of flavour to your cakes.

9. Put a tea towel over your mixers

When dealing with huge amount of dry ingredients, we recommend to put a tea towel over your mixer to keep them dust down and avoid all the extra cleaning you need to do.

10. Cleaning your oven with just 2 ingredients!

Remember the boiling water and baking soda trick I mentioned above? Well use the same trick to clean your oven. It will help to remove all the nasties.
